Analog Voltage-Controlled Amplifier / Mixer

Review

The oldest wisdom in modular synthesis: you can never have enough VCAs. If that's true, then the Intellijel Quad VCA is the most elegant way to get four at once. It's the module equivalent of a well-made hand tool — nothing flashy, nothing superfluous, just correct ergonomics and reliable performance that you reach for in every patch.

The continuously variable linear-to-exponential response curve is the most important feature and the one most often overlooked by newcomers. Linear response is essential for CV mixing and audio crossfading. Exponential response gives the snappy, musical dynamics you want from envelope-controlled amplification. Having both extremes and everything in between, per channel, is a quiet luxury.

The cascading output architecture is what elevates Quad VCA from a utility into a proper mixer. When a channel's output is unpatched, its signal flows into the next channel's output — all the way down to channel 4. A single patch cable at the bottom gives you a four-channel CV-controlled mix. Add the +6dB boost switches for hot signals or intentional overdrive, and the per-channel LED metering, and you have the reference VCA against which all others are measured.

Fully analog signal path. Cascading architecture: Ch1 output flows to Ch2 output (if unpatched), through to Ch4 for automatic submixing. CV inputs accept bipolar voltages. Offset/level knob opens each VCA manually without CV. Requires ±12V DC.
